Failure isolation and missing plugins

Yrendr treats third-party processing as fault-prone and isolates common failures at package, processor and timeline-application boundaries.

Failure behavior

  • Package import or registration errors mark the package as failed and are recorded in Debug Log.
  • Video/audio processor exceptions skip that processor call and are recorded.
  • Generator exceptions produce no generated frame for that call and are recorded.
  • Invalid video/audio output shape is rejected.
  • Timeline processor exceptions fail the processor run before changes are applied.
  • Invalid timeline actions trigger rollback to the pre-run project state.

Develop for clear failure

  1. Validate plugin-specific input before expensive processing.
  2. Raise concise exceptions for user-correctable problems.
  3. Preserve expected frame/sample shapes.
  4. Avoid partial external side effects that cannot be rolled back by the host.
  5. Test missing-media and missing-selection cases explicitly.

Note: Failure isolation is not a substitute for validation. A plugin should still reject invalid input deliberately and explain what the user can change.
