Replace source media
Use Replace media source when an existing video, image or audio clip should point to another compatible file without rebuilding the timeline edit.
Replace a source file
- Select the video, image or audio clip whose source you want to replace.
- Open the clip controls in Inspector.
- Choose Replace media source.
- Select the replacement file.
- Review the clip in Preview and confirm that timing and content still match your edit.
Note: Source replacement changes the project reference. It does not modify either the original or replacement media file.
When to use source replacement
Use this workflow after media has been moved, when relinking a missing file, or when replacing a draft asset with a final version.
Caution: A replacement with a different duration or content can change what is visible inside existing trims. Review affected clips after relinking.
