Timeline basics
Time runs horizontally and tracks are stacked vertically. The timeline determines when clips are active and which track processes them.
Current time
The playhead marks the current position in the project and determines the frame shown in Preview.
Press Space to start or pause playback. Home jumps to the beginning of the project and End jumps to the project duration.
Use Left and Right to move the playhead by one second. Hold Shift to move by five seconds.
Timeline tools
The timeline provides three primary editing tools:
- Select (
V) selects, moves and edits clips on the timeline. - Move (
H) pans around the timeline without moving clips. - Cut (
C) splits a clip directly at the position you click.
You can also pan the timeline at any time using the middle mouse button.
Timeline header
The timeline header contains transport controls for jumping to the beginning, stepping backward, playing or pausing, stepping forward and jumping to the end.
Snapping and ripple controls are available as additional editing helpers.
Track stack
Tracks can be added, removed, renamed and reordered.
Each track has its own name, color, mute state and plugin FX chain. Clips placed on a track are processed in that track's context.
Open-ended navigation
The visible timeline can extend beyond the final clip in the project.
This gives you room to navigate, zoom and continue editing after the current end of the project instead of keeping the last clip pinned against the edge.
